Laundry in a Flash
The Coin Laundry Cuts the Chore in Half
A nationwide laundry habits survey conducted by the Coin Laundry Association (CLA) found that those who wash their laundry at home spend 50 percent more time on the weekly wash than those who wash their laundry at the coin laundry.
According to CLA, a 25-pound commercial-grade coin laundry machine can wash two baskets of laundry per cycle whereas a typical 10- to 12- pound home-style washer can handle only half that. Several coin laundries also feature 50- and 75- pound machines that can wash up to eight baskets of laundry in one cycle, making laundry day a laundry hour.
Procter & Gamble says the average American woman spends seven to nine hours a week on laundry. But don’t despair, CLA has good news for weary washers! It approximates that the average coin laundry customer only spends between one-and-a-half to two hours a week on laundry – a time-savings of five to seven hours.
“We’re not recommending that you put the household washer and dryer up for sale, but the next time the clock seems to be short on hours, try a retail self-service laundry,” says Brian Wallace, chief executive officer for CLA.
For coin laundry first-timers, CLA recommends using a retail self-service laundry for the following time-consuming situations:
- After a long business trip or vacation
- When the kids come home from college
- When faced with large amounts of extra-dirty laundry, such as soccer uniforms and other sports apparel
- After baby comes home from the hospital
Today’s coin laundries feature several ancillary services, such as wash-dry-fold, a laundry drop-off service that allows customers to drop the laundry off and pick it up the next day all washed, dried and folded – just like mom used to do.
Wash-dry-fold cuts the weekly laundry chore down to five minutes,” says Wallace. “It’s perfect for people crunched on time.”
Folding and putting away laundry takes just as much time as washing and drying it. According to CLA’s survey, folding clothes is America’s least favorite laundry task with 20 percent of respondents saying they disliked this ubiquitous chore most. Respondents also said the following were high on their list of laundry pet peeves:
- carrying it up and down the stairs
- when the washer is finished before the dryer
- matching and folding socks
It’s no secret that laundry is the most dreaded domestic task, but it doesn’t have to consume lives. Coin laundries are a clever clock-busting solution to this omnipresent task and several of today’s modern retail self-service coin laundries offer expanded services, such as dry cleaning, tailoring and shoe repair, that can help save even more precious time.
